Cache hit ratio calculator

Enter your cache hit and non-hit counts to calculate the hit ratio. Add timing assumptions to explore an estimated average response time.

Use counts from the same period, cache layer, and request set. Include misses, bypasses, and other non-hit outcomes in the second count. Starting values are illustrative.

YOUR PLANNING ESTIMATE

80% cache hit ratio

Total requests10,000
Modeled average response184 ms

Hit ratio = hits ÷ total requests × 100. Modeled time = hit fraction × average HIT time + non-hit fraction × average non-HIT time.

This is a request-weighted estimate, not measured visitor speed, browser load time, or a promise of improvement. CacheCharger’s checked-page hit percentage is a separate measure from a traffic-based CDN hit ratio.

How to calculate cache hit ratio

  1. Take cache HIT and non-HIT request counts from the same report and period.
  2. Enter the two counts to calculate the percentage of requests served as hits.
  3. Optionally replace the example response times with comparable averages to model the combined average.

What is a good cache hit ratio?

It depends on which requests can safely be cached. Private content, new pages, expiry, and cache rules all affect the result. Review cacheable public pages instead of chasing a universal target.
